BIG LECTURE ROOMS

Capacity: 104 seats
High capacity rooms. The students remain sitting most of the time.
Commonly used for: lectures and big groups. Exams and other written and oral tests, in addition to students’ presentations, conferences and projections.

Equipped with video projectors, sound system and wired so that the students can used their laptops.

MEDIUM SIZED LECTURE ROOMS

Capacity: 72 seats
Medium capacity rooms. The students remain sitting most of the time.
Commonly used for: lectures and big groups (A,B,C4a/b). Exams, written and oral tests, students’ presentations. Conferences and projections. The room B6a is a computer room; the room B6b is a videoconference room.

SMALL LECTURE ROOMS

Capacity: 50 seats
Low capacity rooms. The students remain sitting most of the time.
Commonly used for: lectures to medium groups, exams, written and oral tests, students’ presentations and conferences and projections.

Rooms A7, A8, B7, B8, C7 and C8
Analogue and digital projection devices for multimedia presentations. TabletPC with IP and video connection. Benches with seats and tables.

CLASSROOMS

Capacity: 15 seats
Equipped with specific technological equipment and teaching resources. Usually there are individual working spaces.
Commonly used for: teaching seminars. Exams, written and oral tests, students’ presentations (small groups).

Classrooms A11, A12, A13, A14, B9, B12, B13, B14, C11, C12, C13 and C14
Three of these are equipped with video projectors, sound systems and wired so that the students can used their laptops.
The room C11 is a videoconference room.

RESEARCH LABORATORIES

Capacity: 24 seats
Low capacity rooms, equipped with the necessary technologic equipment to develop theoretical and practical interpretation teaching.
Commonly used for: mostly practical teaching. Exams and students’ presentations.

Language laboratories A10 and B10

Interpreting laboratories L1, L2, L3, NEWTON 15

Commonly used for: mostly practical teaching. Exams and students’ presentations.

COMPUTER ROOMS

Capacity: 24 seats
Equipped with IT resources for students and teachers.
Commonly used for: theoretical-practical classes with specific software. Theoretical-practical exams and tests.

Computer rooms A9, C10, NEWTON 9A, NEWTON 9B, NEWTON 17, B6A

Equipped with a video projector, sound system and stationary computers.
Commonly used for: mostly practical teaching. Exams and students’ presentations.

Open access computer room

Equipped with IT resources, with individual seats. Students support. Use of compulsory IT resources and internet access of students.
Commonly used for: any student can use this facilities to complete the scheduled assessments, exercises or projects, or during their autonomous studying activity. This space is served by fellows from the university.

Academic Staff offices
There are 93 offices for the academic staff divided in the three pavilions. Some of the teaching staff teach and research also in other centres. Their situation and contact, together with the two coordinators per academic year, can be found updated in the section Teaching Staff of the centre webpage.

Students Delegation
The Students Delegation has a space reserved in the Newton Pavilion.

Meeting room

Capacity: 20 seats
Meeting room equipped with video projection resources.
Commonly used for: Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Final Projects defences and PhD thesis defences. It is also used for department and board meetings and for other protocolary acts.

Other material resources
Apart from the facilities and resources in specific teaching-learning spaces, there are different materials which can be used by teachers and students during their development in the centre. The use of these materials is controlled by the concierge service in the faculty through an established system including a proper use agreement. The available materials include laptops, digital projectors, video players for different formats, screens, ladders, connexion wires, etc.

STUDY ROOM

Capacity: 134 seats
Commonly used for: collection consultation. Reading and studying.

LIBRARY

Capacity: 200 seats
General description: It is where the bibliographic and video collections of the faculty are, and it is 1.662 m2. Associated to the University Library of the University of Vigo. With seats for the bibliographic collection consultation, seats for the video viewing and seats for the online catalogue consultation. The collections result in about 70,000 titles, as well as 730 periodicals. There are study rooms for groups, a hall, a computer area with internet access, an area for magazines and journals, a computer area with catalogue access, a reference dictionaries area with study seats, a magazine room and a third-cycle research room. There is a copy service for researchers.
Commonly used for: collection consultation, reading, video viewing and studying. The library works with free access to the books and to the newspaper archives. The collections can be found on the online catalogue, and the researching staff can access and make bibliographic requests online.

General services

Wi-Fi connection

The faculty premises count on a wireless connection to the University network and Internet. All the University community members have access to this service via the password linked to their personal or university email.

Online teaching resources

As a support to the on-site teaching activity, the University of Vigo makes available the IT platform FaiTIC for the teaching staff, with online resources developed for tele-training.

Photocopy service

There is a photocopy service in the centre managed by an external company, hired by the university. The service includes not only photocopying but also documents scanning, binding and materials selling… There is also a photocopy self-service for teaching staff, students associations and administrative and services staff.

Cafeteria and catering services

There is a cafeteria with catering service offered by an external company hired by the university.

Lockers

There are lockers available for the students to keep their personal belongings.

 

Accessibility

The Faculty of Philology and Translation is prepared for the access to the different pavilions and services of people with functional diversity, counting on conveyors and entrance ramps.
